When you first bring home your puppy, you'll need to begin a few things right off the bat. First, you'll have to socialize your puppy from the word, "go," (this goes for all dogs regardless of age), start the training basics, and show your dog around his new home. When you begin training a dog, use a crate.

One of the better ways to introduce your new puppy to his home is the use of a crate and crate training. This is such a fantastic method because it takes advantage of the natural thought processes of your dog in order to reach the training goal, instead of a foreign method that makes things harder than they need to be.

To derive the best effects out of crate training, you'll have to get into a normal pattern with your dog. By having this, you'll enable your dog learn where and when it should use the bathroom, avoiding making unnecessary messes.

When you decide on the crate training method, you have to praise your puppy every time he goes to the bathroom at the right time and place. This gives your dog an understanding that they've done well, and this will motivate them to keep up the good work.

Crate training is made to give your dog a private space when nobody is around him. You'll need to put them in their crate when you leave your home, or when you're sleeping. Whenever you get up or return to the house, go to their crate and take them outside for the potty.

When you misapply the crate, you only hurt yourself and waste your own time. Don't leave your pet in his crate for too long, you'll only have a bathroom mess to clean up. Only use the crate for training purposes, not abuse. Leaving your dog in his crate will only create a negative association for what is supposed to be a safe place.

One other tip that you should experiment with for crate training is simply to give them treats of some sort with their correct behavior. If you do this when they go to the bathroom at the right time and place, then they will think of using the bathroom as a way to get praise when they do it right.

You'll have to come to grips with the fact that accidents do and will happen time to time as your dog learns where he's supposed to use the toilet. Be sure you're not too harsh to them, but be sure you do let them understand that indoors is not the place for relief. You don't want to incite fear in your dog, so don't harm them in any way. All to say, that crate training a dog is a fantastic way to get results.
