It does not come as a surprise that dogs that are older will slow down a little bit. When you see this happening in your dog, make sure to schedule regular check-ups with your vet. That way, your vet will then be able to monitor your dog's health, which is crucial.

Regular check-ups will give you piece of mind that everything is okay with your dog. And you may also get a lot of advice from your vet. This may include advice on the nutritional needs of your dog as he get older.

When it comes to nutrition, you will need to make sure your dog has a well-balanced diet. Among other things, it should include: tons of proteins, vitamins and minerals.

The diet should also be fiber-rich and low in calories. Of course, you do not want to make your dog go hungry, he should always feel full after the meal, but you do not want him to become overweight either, because this is a serious issue.

As an owner of a senior dog, you and your dog may have probably been through a lot of bonding through the years that he has been with you. Like human beings, senior dogs need love and support from their owners.

Moreover, it would be really good for your dog, if he keeps exercising. So make sure to take him out for walks so that he can keep using those old muscles of him.

Walking and playing, too, will keep your dog physically active. Furthermore, you will, of course, also want to make sure he is comfortable at home. Also do not change too many things around him. Most old dogs appreciate stability.

As you can imagine, grooming will still be very important. Continue your good grooming practice even when he gets older. This will make him feel good, and he will feel loved and cared for.

And, like mentioned before, just show the love that you feel for him. The best way to do this is simply to be present. You can play with him, walk with him, or simply let him lie on the couch with you.
